MitaWise ("we," "us," or "our") makes the MitaWise mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the App handles, where it is stored, and the choices you have.
In short: your financial data is stored only on your phone. We do not run servers that store your expenses, income, or account. If you turn on backup, a copy is saved to your own Google Drive, which only you and the App can access.
1. Information Stored on Your Device
The following is stored only on your device, in the App's private storage:
- Financial data — expense and income records (amount, description, category, date), tags, custom categories, recurring expenses (e.g. EMIs, rent), and budgets
- Preferences — currency, theme, language, date format, and reminder settings
- Profile (optional) — your name, email address, and profile photo, if you sign in with Google or choose a photo
- App rating (optional) — your star rating and feedback, if you use "Rate the App"
If more than one account is used on the same phone, each account's data is kept separately. We (the developer) cannot see or access this data. Uninstalling the App or clearing its storage deletes it from your device.
2. Google Sign-In (Optional)
You can use the App without an account. If you choose Continue with Google, the App receives your Google name, email address, and profile photo from Google to show in your profile. This information stays on your device. Signing in with Google is also needed for Google Drive backup.
3. Google Drive Backup (Optional)
If you use backup or turn on Auto backup daily:
- The App requests the
drive.appdatapermission, which allows access only to a hidden, app-specific folder in your Google Drive. The App cannot see or change any of your other Drive files. - The backup file contains your financial data, tags, categories, recurring expenses, and preferences in JSON format. It does not include your profile photo.
- The file is sent directly from your phone to Google over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. It does not pass through any server of ours.
- Auto backup runs at most once a day, only when you open the App, and only after you have made a backup yourself. You can turn it off in Settings.
- You can remove the backup at any time from Google Drive (Settings → Manage apps → MitaWise → Delete hidden app data), or by removing the App's access in your Google Account.
MitaWise's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
4. Earlier Versions
Versions 1.1.1 and earlier stored data on MitaWise servers. Those servers are being shut down and the data stored on them will be permanently deleted. Current versions of the App do not connect to them. To ask us to delete your old data sooner, contact us (see Section 11).

See the Google Privacy Policy and how Google uses information from apps that use its services. You can reset or opt out of personalized ads in your device settings (Settings → Google → Ads).
6. Data Security
- Your data stays in the App's private storage on your device, which other apps cannot read.
- Backups are transferred over HTTPS and stored in a private app folder in your Google Drive.
- Keeping your device secure (screen lock, updates) helps protect your data.
7. Data Retention & Deletion
- Data on your device is kept until you delete it: use Settings → Clear All Data, clear the App's storage, or uninstall the App.
- Google Drive backups are kept until you delete them (see Section 3).
- Because we do not store your data on our servers, there is no online account for us to delete. Data from earlier versions is covered in Section 4. See our Data Deletion page for step-by-step instructions.
8. Your Choices
- Use without an account — Google sign-in is optional
- Export — download your data as CSV or JSON at any time
- Control backups — backups are optional, and auto backup can be turned off
- Delete — clear your data in the App or delete your Drive backup
9. Children's Privacy
MitaWise is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us.
10. Permissions Used
- Photos / media — only if you choose a profile photo
- Notifications — for the daily reminder and recurring-expense reminders, if you turn them on
- Internet — for optional Google sign-in, Google Drive backup, analytics, and ads
The App does not access your location (GPS), contacts, call logs, SMS, or microphone.
